Emotion is a complex psychological and physiological phenomenon involving an individual's state of mind and its interaction between that individual and their environment. In humans, emotion fundamentally involves "physiological arousal, expressive behaviors, and conscious experience". Emotion is associated with mood, temperament, personality and disposition, and motivation. The English word 'emotion' is derived from the French word émouvoir. This is based on the Latin emovere, where e- (variant of ex-) means 'out' and movere means 'move'. The related term "motivation" is also derived from the word movere. No definitive taxonomy of emotions exists, though numerous taxonomies have been proposed. Some categorizations include:
A related distinction is between the emotion and the results of the emotion, principally behaviors and emotional expressions. People often behave in certain ways as a direct result of their emotional state, such as crying, fighting or fleeing. If one can have the emotion without the corresponding behavior, then we may consider the behavior not to be essential to the emotion. Neuroscientific research suggests there is a "magic quarter second" during which it's possible to catch a thought before it becomes an emotional reaction. In that instant, one can catch a feeling before allowing it to take hold. The James-Lange theory posits that emotional experience is largely due to the experience of bodily changes. The functionalist approach to emotions (for example, Nico Frijda and Freitas-Magalhaes) holds that emotions have evolved for a particular function, such as to keep the subject safe. Where and why did humans evolve to have hatred as an emotion. I can see the evolutionary benefits and advantages of loving, happyness, sadness, but not hate. Please do not answer this question if you are not well acquainted with human evolutionary biology or a related field. I am also not asking why people hate each other, I am asking why we experience this emotion as a species. Q. Hi, I play the viola and I can't play with emotion. I'm like a robot. People tell me I need to play with more drama or emotion or soul and I try. I try to make up a little story that goes with the music, but that still doesn't work. I don't know how to loosen up. Any tips or anyone out there like me? Thanks! Asked by mecharissa - Fri Feb 22 19:32:38 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have a couple of suggestions. The first is pretend that you are playing to someone whom you find attractive. The second is to try to find musical pieces which you find more compelling.
