It encompasses a range of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness. Before scientific medicine, healing arts were practised in accordance with alchemical treatments and ritual practices that developed out of religious and cultural traditions. The term "Western medicine" was until recently used to refer to scientific and science-based practices to distinguish it from "Eastern medicine" — which are typically based in traditional, anecdotal, or otherwise non-scientific practices. Contemporary medicine applies health science, biomedical research, and medical technology to diagnose and treat injury and disease, typically through medication, surgery, or some other form of therapy. The word medicine is derived from the Latin ars medicina, meaning the art of healing. Though medical technology and clinical expertise are pivotal to contemporary medicine, successful face-to-face relief of actual suffering continues to require the application of ordinary human feeling and compassion, known in English as bedside manner. GNU Free Documentation License Can Medical Assistants advance further in their career to become x-ray technicians? Q. I am a medical assistant and want to go to school to become a x-ray technician. Since I have experience working as a medical assistant will it be more easier for me to get a job as a x-ray tech. Asked by angelr - Sat Sep 1 00:03:25 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. It certainly wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it would make you a shoe-in, either. Basically employers just want you to be an ARRT-registered radiologic technologist. Answered by RadTech - BAS RT(R)(ARRT) - Sat Sep 1 02:35:55 2007 How hard would medical school be for a physicians assistant? Q. I go to Ohio State University and have a 3.6 gpa and im a paramedic. I wasn't excepted into medical school but I got into PA school. Was thinking about doing the whole pa thing for a few years then going to medical school. Asked by Charlie - Mon Feb 15 22:26:33 2010 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments A. You really shouldn't waste your time and money going to PA school, it will probably be around 100k in debt to go to PA school and a couple years longer before you get to medical school, then to turn around and go another couple hundred thousand for medical school...doesn't make much sense. I suggest you continue working as a medic and then apply to more medical schools next year if that is what you want to do. Q. I know this person who cannot go out in the heat during the summer, otherwise it will make him faint. He doesn't like to discuss this, but I would like to understand him a little better. Also, in his apartment during the summer he always has to have the air conditioner on or he will faint or have problems. What medical condition is this? Asked by Isabella P - Sun Sep 13 21:16:21 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. There are various reasons, the most severe could be autonomic dysfunction, but medications that people take for things as simple as high blood pressure make their body less capable of adaptation to heat and other factors.
