Nounmovie (plural movies)
Derived termsSynonymsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A film, also called a movie or motion picture, is a story conveyed with moving images. It is produced by recording photographic images with cameras, or by creating images using animation techniques or visual effects. The process of filmmaking has developed into an art form and industry. Films are cultural artifacts created by specific cultures, which reflect those cultures, and, in turn, affect them. Film is considered to be an important art form, a source of popular entertainment and a powerful method for educating — or indoctrinating — citizens. The visual elements of cinema give motion pictures a universal power of communication. Some films have become popular worldwide attractions by using dubbing or subtitles that translate the dialogue. Films are made up of a series of individual images called frames. When these images are shown rapidly in succession, a viewer has the illusion that motion is occurring. The viewer cannot see the flickering between frames due to an effect known as persistence of vision, whereby the eye retains a visual image for a fraction of a second after the source has been removed. Viewers perceive motion due to a psychological effect called beta movement. The origin of the name "film" comes from the fact that photographic film (also called film stock) has historically been the primary medium for recording and displaying motion pictures. Many other terms exist for an individual motion picture, including picture, picture show, moving picture, photo-play and flick. A common name for film in the United States is movie, while in Europe the term cinema is preferred. Additional terms for the field in general include the big screen, the silver screen, the cinema and the movies. From Wikipedia under the

Most good movies are going to cost around $300 million to make. How does a company like Paramount, or Fox get that kind of money? I understand that they'd use money from past movies, but what if it is their first movie? Do they just go to a bank and ask if they can take out $300 million? Investors...when one sits at the table to hammer out a distribution and/or production deal, there better be a means to cover a portion or all costs. Studios are much more selective in the art of the deal. Answered by Richard C - Fri Dec 18 17:21:40 2009 What movie is this where an underwater creature eats the white oreo filling?
Q. It came out about ten years ago (possibly later). It was about a family whose mother died, and they went on a mini-vacation to a beach with a lighthouse. In one part of the movie, the father decides to "dig to China" and digs a massive hole in the sand. Somehow, the children discover that there is a creature in the water which likes the white filling in oreos, and they eventually find the creature in an underground cave. The creature is sick and I think it eventually dies. Does anyone remember what the name of this movie is? Asked by mustbme2003 - Sat Jan 10 18:44:09 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A.
