What is the purpose of tears when someone is crying from emotions?
Q. I mean. What's the function of tears in that situation? I mean, just because youre emotionally distressed, how the hell do moist tears help this dilemma?... I mean, you might know WHY we cry, or what sets it off. But still, what's the useful function in it? Thanks!

A. Tears lubricate the eyes and protect them from dirt and infection. During normal flow, tears wash over the eye and drain through ducts into the nasal cavity. During heavy flow, the extra tears spill over the eyelids to wash away particles too large for the ducts. As far as humans are aware there is no purpose why we cry when we are upset - it may be more of emotional reason (physical release for our pain) but our tear ducts are to wash away foreign objects in our eyes.

Can artificial tears irritate your eyes if you changed the brand?
Q. I suffer from chronic dry eyes. I have been using refresh tears for weeks. Just now I had put in sustane artificial tears since I ran out of refresh and decided to change the brand. Now my eye seems more irritated than ever when I put in sustane and it seems to look bloody and swollen on the inner corner of my eye. Could this be due to the change in brand and chemical of artificial tears?

A. systane is a very good medication , you may have an allergy from the preservative in it or have a corneal condition .

How can we make tears come out from our eyes like the actors do?
Q. Like when somethin bad happens and the tears will come out from they r eyes or when someone dies.
Asked by cristian vieira andrade - Tue May 27 13:11:50 2008 - - 7 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Actors react to the situation as the character. Therefore if the character would cry because of the situation, the actor will cry. A good actor need no onion, drops or emotional memory to make it happen, he just needs to respond honestly to the stimuli of the situation.

A. Yes AND No. Water pases through the blood stream. Sweat and tears are actully filtered nutrients from everything we eat. It is a different way of filtered blood exiting our body. Don't worry about losing your filtered blood though... You create 400 (estimate) new red blood cells a minute!

What is the significance of tears of blood?
Q. Tears of blood are seen on some statues, as well as some stigmatics. Why?
Asked by Luke - Wed Aug 20 09:17:23 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. People staging hoaxes wanted people to make radical changes and tried to make the statues appear like they were sad. They probably copied it from when Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane sweating blood because he was so stressed.

How do you make fake tears that will stay on?
Q. Its for a halloween costume, she is being a baby and wants to have noticeable fake tears that will stay on easy. How do you do this?! Thanks.

A. You can get a hot glue gun and make the shape of a tear out of the hot glue. Don't touch it yet. Let it dry! When it is dry you can get double sided tape or you could get false eyelashes and use the glue from that to glue them on. it works great!

My dog's eyes occasionally water and the tears are sometimes pinkish. Is this a sign of some occular problem?
Q. His eyes appear to water when he whimpers (when he knows we are leaving, etc.). I didn't think that dog's actually cry. I was wondering if the tears are actually tears, or are his eyes perhaps watering because of some infection. His eyes are not normally reddish unless he is very tired, there is no mucous buildup and he does not seem bothered by it.
Asked by BJ - Tue Jan 29 13:01:26 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The "pinkish" color you are seeing is normal discharge. I have personally seen dogs tear up at our clinic when vaccines are given, so I do believe they can cry. That is my personal opinion. As long as the mucus build up is not yellow or green in color, there is no concern.

What is the physical purpose of shedding tears when you cry?
Q. What is actually achieved by crying? I know it is to show other people that you are sad, but when you are happy or angry you do not leak. So why so when you are sad? What I mean is, what is physically achieved by shedding tears?
Asked by Turrabo - Tue Jan 27 17:37:45 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It flushes toxins and hormones, making you feel better "after a good cry." But don't sell short the importance of being able to show people how you feel--in our tribal days, it was an urgent form of communication. Today, we like to think of ourselves as too sophisticated for that to matter, but biologically, we are still a tribal species. You will not get along well in the world if you do not show appropriate feelings.

My daughter has spiteful friends and they reduce her to tears with regularity. Any suggestions?
Q. The group of girls my daughter (15) semi hangs out with can be really spiteful and unkind and are very often leaving her out of things - I encourage her to make new friends but as soon as they see her hanging out with other people they start being extra nice and she ends up drifting back to the old crew. Whereupon they start being spiteful again. Does anyone have any good suggestions on how, as a parent I can help her. She's in tears right now.

How do our lacrimal glands produce tears when we cry emotionally?
Q. in our anatomy and physiology class, we discussed that there is still no scientific evidence why there are tears pouring when we are upset. im wondering why and how could our glands produce so much tears? i usually cry, like a lot. so yeah, im curious.
Asked by the damsel - Fri Jan 23 07:43:50 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Hmm, I've heard differently. Supposedly, when we cry, a certain chemical is released in the tears (salty taste) that helps alleviate the emotions in our brain. Therefore, if you're sad, and you cry, you're, in a way, crying out the sadness.
